Sleep paralysis

Sleep paralysis happens when the muscle atonia that keeps your body still during REM sleep carries over into waking. Your mind is already awake and your body is still asleep. That gap is when the chest pressure arrives, along with the certainty that something is standing in the room. It is a timing problem in sleep, not a visitor.
