Solo travel

Most solo travel safety articles end in a list of tips. This one compares something sturdier: the systems governments run to keep their own citizens informed abroad. All three countries here use four-level risk scales, but the top level means different things, a recommendation in America, a legal prohibition in Korea. Registration differs too: America's is voluntary, Japan's becomes a legal duty after three months abroad. The core distinction is simple. A level is information; registration is a connection.
